The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is an agency of the Scottish Government, working in partnership with organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to deliver safe and secure custodial services that empower offenders to take responsibility and to fulfil their potential. The people in our care include some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our communities. The nature and needs of those who are in custody are becoming increasingly more complex, meaning the world our staff work in is changing rapidly, presenting us with new challenges every day.

Further details of our work can be seen in the SPS Corporate Plan.

We are continuing to review and reshape our service, responding to existing and emerging challenges, by developing our workforce through further education, training and professional development. SPS College, which provides development for all those who work in Scottish Prisons, has recently become a credit rating body and is undergoing an exciting period of change to ensure that we have the right teaching and research capacity to inform training design, assurance and delivery.

We are recruiting for Learning and Development Managers to work in a selected number of prison establishments across Scotland, and work closely with SPS College, supporting this journey of transformation. We currently have a vacancy within HMP Low Moss (outskirts of Bishopbriggs)

In role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a purposeful learning environment within the SPS. You will work to new standards, including CPD requirements. You will provide and support the delivery of training products, individual tutorials, group workshops and staff CPD activities. You will support the design of teaching and assessment materials, monitor student progress, provide learning support and ensure the continued alignment of teaching to professional practice in a range of areas. You will support others within the SPS College in ensuring all training and delivery contributes to the overall organisational capability for the SPS.

Successful applicants must evidence academic attainment at SCQF Level 6 (Higher level or equivalent) or above, and if you don’t already possess one, you will be willing to work towards a relevant learning and development qualification at SCQF level 9 within role.

In role you will enjoy a range of benefits we offer, including job security, generous annual leave entitlement (34 days raising to 42 days), civil service pension scheme, free parking, free gym access and discounts at a number of high street stores and restaurants. Most importantly, you will be undertaking a role where you can make a real difference, helping to ensure there is fairness, safety, prosperity and opportunity, for all citizens across Scotland.
