The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is currently recruiting permanent Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineers to work within our prisons across Scotland. We currently have vacancies in the following locations: HMP Low Moss (Bishopbriggs), HMP Glenochil (Alloa), HMP Edinburgh and HMP Inverness however we will consider applications for other locations across Scotland. Our Plumbing & Heating Maintenance Engineers provide a comprehensive repairs and maintenance service for all mechanical systems and plant, for example plumbing, heating and ventilation systems. We will invest in your development to allow you to learn and apply new skills which can include development into management roles.

Please note that there will be a requirement to periodically work on call hours.

Successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check and a pre-employment medical assessment to determine suitability for role.


Key Responsibilities:

Undertake reactive and planned maintenance and minor installation works throughout the establishment as instructed to all mechanical plant, equipment and systems.

Maintain a safe and healthy working environment through regular checking and testing of mechanical appliances and installations in accordance with relevant legislation. Participating in an "on-call" rota for emergency repairs, providing area coverage when required.

To provide technical support and advice on plumbing, heating and ventilation issues to the Manager.

Identify and order replacement parts and equipment necessary for maintenance activities, in conjunction with the administrator.


Essential Requirements:

Have completed a recognised apprenticeship in plumbing or heating and ventilation or mechanical engineering services.

Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and relevant legislation.

Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and as part of a team.

Good problem solving and fault finding abilities.
