About the roles

We have a number of exciting opportunities for individuals to join us as we expand our Development and Innovation (D&I) Directorate. We are doing this to ensure we continue to deliver our core regulatory and statutory work to support the development of the workforce, develop resources to meet emerging skill needs, quality assure education, training and setting standards for practice, as well as in response to supporting the implementation of a number of critically important national policies and initiatives which impact on the workforce, including The Promise, the Workforce Strategy for Health and Social Care, and recommendations regarding the National Care Service, amongst many others.

We are recruiting six Learning and Development Adviser posts in order to support this wide-ranging and exciting work. The posts will sit across both our Learning and Development department and our Workforce Planning department, specifically within our Qualifications and Standards team, our Professional Learning team, and our Leadership and Improvement Learning Team.

You will be joining the SSSC – and the D&I Directorate – at a very exciting time, where you will have the opportunity through your work to influence national change. You will not only support the SSSC’s statutory and regulatory functions, but you will also have the opportunity to play a critical role in supporting and leading on various workstreams related to national governmental priorities. Within this, you will undertake a diverse range of workforce development activities and duties, making the work continuously interesting, varied and challenging.

What you need to succeed

We are looking for exceptional and versatile individuals who thrive on challenge and who are motivated to influence and support national change. You will be skilled in adapting your working style to accommodate the need to change direction and to move into a wide range of work areas, swiftly but effectively.

Who we are

We are the independent regulator for social service workers in Scotland. Our work means the people of Scotland can count on social services being provided by a trusted, skilled and confident workforce.

We protect the public by registering social service workers, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, we can investigate and take action. There are over 200,000 people employed in social services in Scotland. Over 160,000 of these people are registered with the SSSC.

Why work for us

We are an ambitious, enthusiastic and supportive organisation. With around 300 employees, you can really make an impact here. We offer a generous salary, flexible working arrangements, a full range of benefits, local government pension scheme and up to 43 days holiday (dependent on service).

Our office is in Dundee but this role is home based at the moment as we develop our agile working policy. We encourage remote working and support a less office-based format. We are happy to discuss individual arrangements and consider agile working as an option, depending on job requirements (such as being in the office for training events and meetings etc) and meeting the eligibility criteria determined by the new policy.

Living in Dundee

Scotland’s sunniest city, Dundee is the UK’s first UNESCO City of Design and made Lonely Planet’s top 10 European hotspots in 2018 for its growing cultural scene and the transformation of the city’s historic waterfront. Dundee also made the National Geographic 2019 ‘must see cool list’.

Our offices are on the banks of the River Tay, right at the heart of the redesigned waterfront, close to the railway station and bus links and on the Green Circular cycle path, which goes right around the city.

We are next door to the new V&A Dundee and Captain Scott’s famous ship, RRS Discovery, built here in 1900. The city is a great shopping destination, surrounded by many eateries and bars. It is also rich in scenery with lovely beaches and parks.

We believe that the SSSC and Dundee offer a great place to begin or expand your career.
