Job Details

We have a vacancy for a Wellbeing Practitioner with a valid driving licence to join a team which supports a man living in the Merchiston area of Edinburgh. Driving is essential for this gentleman support. This position is for 20 hours per week and sleepovers are part of the service.

About this opportunity

To support a gentleman who lives in his own home in Merchiston and has autism and a learning disability and receives 24/7 support with the addition of 28 hours of 2:1 support. He thrives on consistent support and his own routine which makes him feel safe and calm. This gentleman is content when he knows what’s happening with clear instructions and boundaries from staff. It would be beneficial if the candidate is strong enough physically to feel comfortable with the gentleman support. He likes a daily cleaning routine, going for drives in his own car, walks, cinema, swims, pubs, meals out, drawing and writing. He is very affectionate and happy in general, requiring close support and guidance with eating, bathing, medication, and daily activities. While this person is prone to anxiety, he benefits from calm and clear instructions from staff. Collecting and writing papers give this man a sense of control and ownership and staff are expected to help him manage these tendencies. You will be expected to work and collaborate as a team member, be a good team player and contribute to the team’s support effort.

Shift patterns are usually 2pm start or after with a sleepover and morning shift but these can change. In addition, you may also be asked to work 2:1 for an afternoon or morning shift.

The successful candidate must be flexible and able to cover sleepovers.

All team members plan and agree the rota together 1 to 3 months in advance.
