The Development Management Service is looking to recruit a motivated planning professional to be based in our Lochgilphead planning office and line manage a team of professional and technical staff delivering the Council’s Development Management and Planning Enforcement functions throughout Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands.

The successful candidate will become a key member of the DM Service’s management team tasked with the delivery of first class customer service, implementing the aspirations of our growth led Local Development Plan (LDP) and maintaining positive performance. In addition to managing their own caseload, the post holder’s primary responsibility will be the efficient management and effective day to day operation of the Development Management Service within the ‘MAKI’ administrative area covering Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands of Islay, Jura, Colonsay and Gigha.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years relevant post qualification planning experience. This will include a detailed knowledge and competence in the implementation of Development Management legislation and procedure, the ability to demonstrate effective leadership, and an ability to command the respect and enthusiastic support of their staff. A familiarity with rural planning issues, the assessment of major applications and in particular those relating to renewable energy and minerals developments, undertaking planning enforcement, and a track record of dealing with IT and data management systems would all be advantageous.

The salary scale will be Scottish Local Government Employee (SLGE) 12, which is £40,513 to £44,345 per annum. The post holder will be contracted to 35 hours per week and will be entitled to flexitime; additionally, Argyll and Bute Council offer a

relocation package to new employees who move to the area.

The post is based at the Manse Brae Customer Service Point in Lochilphead. Whilst COVID restrictions on use of offices remain in place the postholder would be expected to work from home with a requirement to travel to/from/about the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands area to undertake site visits/team engagement/training as necessary. Once COVID restrictions on office attendance are removed the postholder will be expected to be available to work from the Lochgilphead office when required.
