Do you want to make a positive difference to the lives of others?

Our Home Care and Reablement services provide support to the citizens of Edinburgh in their own homes to enable them to achieve as much independence as they can. We operate seven days a week with a focus on supporting service

users to regain or attain skills and abilities. This brings positive and life changing improvements to those we work with .Do you have experience of working in a care environment?

We are looking for individuals who have experience of working in a care environment. We will provide you with training to enable you to undertake the role and assist you in developing your skills.

What does the role entail?

The Prevention Team work with individuals to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital where there is no medical need to do so. This enables the person to remain living at home whilst promoting and encouraging independence where possible. You will be the initial worker who is one of the first on site and responsible for undertaking the environmental risk assessment, assist people with personal care, such as assisting to bath and dress, support with catheter and / or stoma care where required, assist to make meals or with eating and prompting or administration of medication. You will liaise with your Home Care Co-ordinator (line manager), Home Care Organiser and the individual to complete a Personal Plan folder.

A full driving licence is essential as well as the use of a car for work. You will be a registered car user which entitles you to claim 0.45p per mile whilst travelling for work purposes. The Prevention Team is split into two. The North Team covers the North East and North West Locality areas and the South Team covers the South East and South West Locality areas. However, you may be required to visit service users across / within the City of Edinburgh boundary to cover leave. You will be given adequate travel time and paid the mileage to do so.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

Requirements

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
