Our Graduate Scheme is designed to give you a positive start to your career in local government. You will be mainly based in the Democratic Services Team in Larbert but as a Hybrid Worker will also work from home.
You will provide support and guidance to the Council's Scrutiny committees and play a key role in developing the Council’s scrutiny function more generally. You will provide advice and guidance to officers and to elected members on procedure and policy as well on effective scrutiny. You will lead on scrutiny panel and policy development panel reviews and will help develop and have oversight of the Council's scrutiny plan.
A key project will be to develop a training package on scrutiny.
You will ensure effective and efficient administration and forward planning arrangements are maintained to support the scrutiny committees and policy development/scrutiny panels.
You will have the ability to analyse complex situations quickly and develop and communicate appropriate solutions and the ability to carry out research and understand, interpret and communicate complex data and information, including as reports to committee. You will act as an advisor to the Committees, panels, elected members and officers.
You will have an HND or above in Political Science, Social Science or Law including a research component or a related discipline or other recognised relevant subject.
You will communicate with internal services, outside agencies and the public.

This post is temporary until August 2026.
You will sometimes be required to travel to sites or meetings at other premises and in connection with work activities. A full driving licence is desirable (Pool cars are available).
