Job Description

To be responsible for the service, maintenance and repair of the Glasgow City Council fleet of light and heavy vehicles to DVSA and Health and Safety standards and for the completion of all relevant associated paperwork.  You will also attend breakdowns as and when required. You must be a fully qualified LGV Mechanic who has completed a recognised apprenticeship to C&G, Scotvec or equivalent standard and hold a current LGV category C driving licence or be willing to gain an LGV category C driving licence entitlement within 12 months of your start date at your own expense.  A category D1, an LGV C+E licence or a category D licence are desirable.  A current knowledge of vehicle systems, including electric vehicles, and the legal requirements with regard to vehicle condition to MOT standard is essential.  As are good communication, organisational, diagnostic/report writing skills, the ability to work to tight time schedules and to work on own initiative or as part of a team. There is currently a 2 shift system in operation: Dayshift: Monday - Thursday 08:00hrs to 16:30 hrs and Friday 08:00hrs to 13:30hrs  Backshift: Monday to Thursday 13:00hrs - 21:30hrs and Friday 12 noon - 17:30hrs.  * Please note that the operational hours are subject to review and may change.
