Job Purpose: We are looking for a senior engineer to join our busy Roads Team in some of the most beautiful areas of Scotland. Covering Lochaber, Badenoch and Strathspey you will provide technical direction to road routine maintenance programmes for capital and minor improvements. You will manage a small team of technical staff and you will represent the Highland Council at Ward Forums and community events.

Working in Lochaber, the outdoor capital of the UK, you will be surrounded by dramatic scenery and spectacular landscapes creating a natural playground for those who enjoy outdoor adventure. When working in Fort William you can enjoy some of the finest mountain biking terrain in the world, that regularly hosts World Championship events. The Nevis Range offers some of the best winter sports opportunities, while the Cairngorm Mountains presents an exciting range of family activities year-round.

This is a fantastic career opportunity for someone who has experience of roads design or a related field. Applicants are not expected to have experience in all the essential attributes that the job description covers; on-the-job training will be given for the other topic areas as required.

Requirements

  1. Degree in Civil Engineering or HNC / HND plus Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer (consideration may be given to applicants working towards their professional qualification with suitable experience)
  2. Ability to travel across the Council network to meet requirements of the post.
