Loanhead Primary School is a single stream, non-denominational, co-educational school situated within the Loanhead area of Midlothian. The current school building opened in 2008 and provides very good indoor and outdoor learning environments. The classrooms are grouped with sliding doors which open onto bright shared atrium areas. Other facilities include a gym/assembly area, an expressive arts room, library, additional support needs base, and a number of small tutorial rooms. The school kitchen serves a dining area with the opportunity for outdoor eating when the weather permits this. The school currently has seven classes for P1 and P7 pupils with a roll of around 180 pupils, and an ELC setting with spaces for 40 pupils aged 3-5 receiving 1140 hours of ELC over a session. There are Community Rooms in the school which are available for wider community use, for example parent groups and curriculum partnerships.

Loanhead Primary School is temporarily hosting a three class additional support needs provision in a separate area of the building. The provision classrooms have a separate entrance but share the activity halls, dining rooms and expressive arts facilities. These learners are an integral part of the school and are well supported by a principal teacher, teachers and learning assistants. The additional support needs service in Midlothian is in the process of being reviewed.

The school is currently a currently part of the Lasswade High School associated school group who we work closely with to ensure our learners continue to thrive in their education. A statutory consultation is underway to realign the catchment areas in the wider Loanhead area. Consultations - Relocating Beeslack Community High School | Midlothian Council The proposal is for Loanhead Primary School to become part of the Beeslack Community High School associated school group when its new building opens in August 2026.

Loanhead is a town in Midlothian, Scotland, seven miles southeast of Edinburgh city centre. It is home to around 7,000 people. We aim to provide a warm and caring learning environment where pupils, parents and members of the community feel welcome and where a positive partnership between our school and the wider community can flourish.
