Community Justice Social Work Team, One Stop Women’s Learning Service (OWLS), St. Martin's House, Perth

An opportunity has arisen for a Community Justice Assistant post to work within our Community Justice Social Work Team, based in our One Stop Women’s Learning Service (OWLS).

The successful applicant will support the provision of a social work service to individuals subject to Statutory Orders or licence imposed by both the Court and the Parole Board, in accordance with National Outcomes and Standards for Social Work Services in the Criminal Justice System and relevant Scottish Executive Circulars and legislation.

This is a fixed term post until 31 March 2025 due to annual funding which is currently recurring.

The interview process for Community Justice Social Work is under review and you may be asked to complete additional tasks as part of the interview process.

Requirements

We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and highly motivated worker to join the Community Justice Social Work team.  

The successful candidate should have experience of working with female offenders, and/or working experience and knowledge of key issues within the Justice System e.g. trauma, mental health, substance misuse etc.

Please note that this post is restricted to women applicants only.  This is an occupational requirement as permitted in accordance with Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

You should be innovative and flexible in your approach as well as clear and concise in both your written and verbal communication.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to engage with clients and a wide range of stakeholders.  

You will be able to organise your workload using a systematic approach to ensure high standards are maintained.  

You must be able to keep accurate and up to date records.

You should have a commitment to ongoing professional development to acquire the skills and knowledge relating to the role and developing expertise to provide support to others.

The successful candidate should have an SVQ Level 3 (or be willing to work towards this).

You may be required to accompany offenders to and from appointments, carry out home visits and do outreach work throughout the Perth & Kinross area, including rural areas, therefore you must have a valid UK driving licence and access to a car.

This post involves working predominantly with female offenders based in OWLS.  You may on occasions work with male offenders, across other parts of the service.

You will have the ability to work alongside team members and agencies who are involved with offenders, to help support structured intervention/supervision. You will support colleagues, offenders and their families through assessment and intervention.

The successful candidate will have:

- previous experience or knowledge of working with female offenders and/or their families;
- the ability to identify and assess risk and implement support plans;
- the ability to assess, create and implement appropriate interventions for the wellbeing and/or learning needs of clients;
- organisational skills to plan, prioritise, and manage conflicting priorities and contribute to the needs of the team/service;
- the ability to communicate effectively to build relationships with clients, and internal/external stakeholders;
 - the ability to produce and maintain clear, concise and accurate records.
