Job Description

Head Teacher & Campus Leader (PKC11399)
£91,269
Breadalbane Academy, Breadalbane Community Campus, Aberfeldy

Will you be as ambitious for Breadalbane Academy as we are? Be our new Head Teacher.

We are looking for our next Head Teacher and Campus Leader for this unique setting.

Do you have what it takes to lead this school community on the next stage of their journey?

If you do, here are three reasons why you should want to be our next Head Teacher:

  1. We — staff, pupils and parents — are ambitious to build on already strong attainment. Do you have the drive to lead further improvement? Then this is the school for you.
  2. Our whole-child approach draws on the widest range of modern facilities and strong links with community and outdoor organisations. You couldn’t ask for a more exciting setting in which to help every child fulfil their potential.
  3. As an all-through, 2-18, school with its own Gaelic Medium provision and the attached sporting facilities of a full campus, our school offers a unique opportunity to help pupils develop and grow across the whole of their school career.

Breadalbane Academy is a high-performing all-through school located in the scenic town of Aberfeldy. This attractive little town, and the rest of the school's catchment area in Highland Perthshire, is well known for its picturesque surroundings and for the vibrancy of the local economy, built around a thriving outdoor activities and hospitality sector, leisure facilities, nationally renowned restaurants, cafes, an art-deco cinema and award-winning bookshops.

Aberfeldy’s location makes it an ideal gateway to the Scottish Highlands, despite being little more than 30 minutes commute from the City of Perth. Perth in turn has excellent motorway and rail links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, which can each be accessed in about one hour.

We are an all-through school, catering for pupils aged 2 to 18.The catchment stretches from the stunning wilderness of Rannoch Moor in the west to the bustling towns of Dunkeld and Pitlochry in the east.

The school has a Gaelic Medium provision in the primary and secondary and we also opened a Gaelic Nursery in session 21-22. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a commitment to Gaelic Medium Education (GME).

As well as excellent academic attainment, Breadalbane Academy prides itself on the quality of its wider curriculum. This stresses the development of the whole child. A number of different bodies have recently recognised the success of our curriculum in achieving these goals. For instance, the school was one of three finalists in the Scottish Education Awards STEM category in 2018 and in the Learner Pathways category in 2020.

Our work in developing employability skills has also been used to exemplify good practice on the national Education Scotland website. Our sector-leading outdoor learning programme is to be featured on the BBC’s "Adventure Show". And our Breadalbane Guarantee sets out our commitment that all pupils will enjoy a range of wider achievement opportunities during their time at our school.

Our modern Community Campus opened in December 2010 and provides an exceptional learning and working environment for pupils and staff, making ours one of the best equipped schools in Scotland. Our facility boasts a 25m swimming pool, an astroturf playing surface, a recording studio, a dance studio, and excellent ICT resources.
