Role Purpose

Located centrally in Galashiels, this office based post is to work as a member of the Children & Young People's Duty Assessment Team HUB - covering the whole of the Scottish Borders local authority area.
This is a busy environment in which all concerns for children are received, screened and initial assessments of risk and need undertaken. This includes cases which meet the threshold for child protection.
The social work assistant role is to seek, gather, record and share information to support the Duty senior social worker’s screening and assessment of risk and need.
As a Social work assistant within the Children and Young People's Social Work service you will practice in a team with the support and direction of the respective Team Leader and Senior Social Workers.
You will provide advice and guidance to individuals and families. You will be part of the team working to ensure, wherever possible, that children and young people are helped to remain in their own homes and local communities.

You may be required to work with children on the Child Protection Register and those who become Looked After and Accommodated.

Essential

HNC/SVQ 3 in Social Care, Child Care and Education OR considerable experience with an undertaking to engage in relevant training.
