Senior Risk Adviser
Waverley Court

Salary: £42,717 - £50,550
Hours: 36 per week

Responsible for the ongoing development and co-ordination, performance and efficiency of the risk management framework and internal control and the consolidation and reporting of all risk and control information to ensure a consistent approach across the Council.

Major Tasks

• Under direction of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) lead on the development of initiatives, strategic plans and policy development within own area of expertise and across the directorates and Council.
• Lead on identifying and establishing effective management arrangements for key risks within the service, compliant with the Council’s risk management policy and framework.
• Support the Council’s democratic process, including scrutiny, local development committees, meetings of the Council and Elected Members.
• Support the CRO in taking responsibility for the risk management strategy and framework to support sustainable strategic plans for the Council.
• Raise awareness of risk management, internal control and compliance across the Council through ongoing communication.
• Ensure that the Council has an adequate process in place to identify and assess risks as part of strategy development, business operations, projects, contracts and investments.
• Assist Council Divisions and Directorates with the facilitation of risk identification and assessment, providing challenge on the quality, content and completeness of the assessment provided.
• Responsible for the preparation and content of risk reporting, strategic plans, other documents, briefings, presentations and FOIs for Council meetings, external agencies, senior officers, including the Council Leadership Team and the relevant committees as well as business and stakeholder groups.
• Prepare periodic Council risk summary dashboard report on the key risks for review and approval by the CRO and the Leadership Team to assess the progress against agreed actions and to further mitigate high residual risks.
• Ensure ad hoc escalation reporting requirements are met by Divisions and Directorates Areas.
• Facilitate in depth debates with the Senior Management and Leadership Teams on key areas of risk faced by the Council and initiate more advanced quantification as necessary.
• Consolidate Divisional risk registers and conduct analysis to assess common themes, trends and aggregations.
• Conduct analysis on near misses and loss events across the Council for common causes or potential areas for systemic failure.
• Identify the need for and application requirements of IT based risk tools and maintain accountabilities for its use and ongoing relevance.

Experience

• Providing contextual analysis to support organisational assessment of risk. Working in a similar role in a large multidisciplinary organisation. Developing others in risk management practices
• Risk Management subject matter expert, Experienced delivering training, workshops and briefings
•Qualified to degree or postgraduate level in a relevant discipline

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
