The General Teaching Council for Scotland
The General Teaching Council for Scotland was established in 1965. It is the oldest teaching Council and the world’s first independent, self-regulating professional body for teaching. GTC Scotland is the guardian of the Professional Standards for Registration described by the OECD in 2015 as ‘inspiring’. Its role in registering, regulating, and supporting the career-long professional learning of teachers across the country, in the state and independent sectors, is key to ensuring the success of the Government’s strategies for education.
