Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced practitioner with proven senior leadership and management skills. The ASN & Outreach Service – consisting of support for Hearing (including Aberdeen School for the Deaf), Vision, Dyslexia, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Language and Communication, the education element of the Fit Like? Family Wellbeing Hubs, and ELC Links – seeks a Head Teacher to shape the vision and values of the integrated service, which will underpin the collaborative and flexible approaches to securing equity and excellence for learners. Using their knowledge of national and local legislation and policy, they will embed and quality assure high-quality leadership and learning practice across the service for the purposes of building universal capacity across Aberdeen City schools. The Head Teacher will lead and line manage a senior leadership team of four Depute Head Teachers and the Centre Manager of ELC Links. The post-holder will be registered with the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS), demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of all areas and levels of Curriculum for Excellence (3-18), and be confident collaborating with multiple agencies within the context of Getting it Right for Every Child to secure positive outcomes for learners and their families.

 

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

Appropriate teaching qualification

Full GTC (Scotland) Registration in the appropriate subject/sector

PVG scheme membership

Under Section 28 of the Education (Scotland) Act 2016, it is a pre-requisite for all
teachers taking up their first permanent Head Teacher position to hold the Standard
for Headship. If this is applicable to you, and you do not already hold this, you must
be willing and able to achieve the Standard for Headship within 30 months of taking
up the role.
