Location: Art Gallery & Cowdray Hall, Aberdeen
Duration: Permanent, Full Time working over a two week rota with one weekend worked
Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
job purpose/about the role
To manage the operation of security arrangements and customer care across the Museum and Gallery venues. The post has a key role in providing a first point of contact for visitors and users to venues. Tasks include managing the front of house team, delivering excellent customer care, organising security arrangements, staff rotas, building maintenance and cleaning duties. To provide support for a range of exhibitions, displays, collection work, events, functions & corporate hire. The supervisor team plays a key role in supporting out teams with AAGM with strategic planning.
The job requires weekend and out-of-standard hours working and lone working
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
• Educated to Standard Grade or equivalent
• Full UK Driving Licence
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
• Ability to use own initiative and to manage buildings and front of house team
unsupervised at weekends
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, staff and colleagues.
• Ability to identify and to solve issues that arise with the operation/management of the
Museum & gallery venues
• Ability to identify issues arising from corporate hires and to take actions to resolve them
• Basic knowledge of ICT packages including Word
• Excellent customer care and good interpersonal skills gained through previous
experience of working with the public
• Proven experience in Security work
• Effective communication with a wide range of people both orally and in written form.
• Able to remain alert, anticipate potential problems and apply suitable resolutions
• Able to work successfully as part of a team or on own initiative
• Experience of applying practical DIY skills
• Demonstrates a positive approach to work
