Job Description

To contribute to the management of the school/service and the delivery of quality education through the appropriate involvement of pupils, staff, parents, other agencies and the community. This will be done in accordance with the Authority’s strategic plan, the school/service improvement plan, national priorities, local improvement objectives, in accordance with current legislation and within national and local agreements.

Appropriate teaching qualification
Full GTC (Scotland) registration in the appropriate subject/sector, or be eligible for such registration
PVG scheme membership – Working with Children

Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to:
• Provide professional leadership and support to colleagues within Faculty/ assigned area of responsibility
• Manage assigned financial and physical resources
• Lead curriculum development and quality assurance
• Contribute to the development of school policy in relation to the behaviour management of pupils
• Ensure effective administration of examinations and qualifications
• Review and support professional needs, and performance of colleagues through continuous professional development
• Where required, lead, implement and manage whole school policies including, where appropriate, guidance, pastoral care and behaviour support
• Deliver a quality education to pupils in the context of the school’s agreed targets and School Improvement Plan.
• Work in a collegiate manner in partnership with parents/carers, pupils and colleagues across the education community to promote positive outcomes
for young people and to raise levels of attainment and wider achievement for a diverse range of pupils.
• Support the health, safety and wellbeing of young people in school.
• Meet and maintain the professional standards which are set by the GTCS Code of Conduct and participate in the Scheme of

The Individual

The post holder is expected to demonstrate:
• Ability to provide strategic direction and guidance to colleagues
• Ability to lead curriculum development and quality assurance
• Ability to teach the full curriculum in the relevant subject (or, in a multi-departmental faculty, at least one subject area) or sector, and to develop the curriculum
• Ability to prioritise the work in the assigned areas of responsibility
• Organisational skills
• Ability to manage and organise classes through planning and preparing for teaching and learning
• Ability to assess, record and report on the work of pupils’ progress to inform a range of teaching and learning approaches
• Ability to prepare pupils for examinations and qualifications
• Ability to contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school
• Ability to contribute to the school and council planning and improvement processes
• Ability to maintain and develop knowledge and skills and contribute to the professional development
