Location: Aberdeen Treasure Hub

Duration: Fixed term contract up to 15 months, Full Time

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

The purpose of the job is to carry out rationalisation and disposal within identified areas of the Applied Art and Social History collection. The post will increase understanding of the collection through cataloguing and object identification whilst reducing pressure on storage facilities and improving physical access to identified collection areas.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • Qualification at degree level
  • Recognised post graduate qualification in museum or archives practice or equivalent practical experience

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

 

· Skills and experience in:

  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft applications and databases

· Demonstrable experience of working with museum documentation systems and computerised inventories

· Experience of collections management procedures and demonstrable understanding of museum documentation terminology

· Good knowledge of Social History/Applied Art, or a related area as evidenced through qualifications, experience or other.

· Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to work accurately whilst meeting deadlines.

· Able to write clear detailed reports and guidelines for colleagues

· Knowledge of processes required to handle information, records and statistics accurately and efficiently and demonstrate a well-organised approach to work assignments.

· Able to demonstrate, through previous experience, a commitment to achieving improved intellectual and physical access for all Museums and Galleries Collections through previous experience

· Excellent customer service

· Continuous development in relation to the City Council’s systems and wider cultural sector practice
