Job Description

The Promise, the output of the Scottish Government's independent care review, challenges us to transform the way in which we deliver services to children, young people and their families

At Aberdeenshire Council we have identified that this is the right time to undertake a comprehensive review of our Fostering service.  This post represents an exciting opportunity to lead on this review, working in partnership with staff, foster carers, children, young people and their families, to ensure that we provide the very best possible fostering service, consistent with all of the principles of the Promise.  Following the review, the postholder will lead on the implementation of any agreed actions from the review.

Alongside undertaking the review and implementing actions which arise from this, the postholder will also line manage Aberdeenshire's 2 fostering team managers and provide operational leadership to the fostering service for the duration of the post.  Do you have a sound knowledge of fostering, and an understanding of how to lead on transforming services?   If so this could be the ideal post for you.

This post is regulated work with children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

As this post will involve working across Aberdeenshire, the office base for the post is negotiable with the successful candidate.

It is Aberdeenshire Council’s procedure that applicants for vacancies of this nature require to attend an assessment centre as well as interview.

Please note, assessment centres and interviews may be carried out on different dates which will be confirmed in due course.

This post has a minimum requirement of two references, one of these must be your current or most recent employer.

Fixed Term for a period not exceeding 30/05/2025

If you would like to find out more about the post I would be delighted to hear from you - Andrew Dick, 01467 536751.
