Job Description

Working as part of the Early Years team within our school nurseries, you will contribute to the development and wellbeing of young children. You will have a positive and nurturing approach and the enthusiasm and commitment to work toward a qualification in Social Services (Children & Young People) at SCQF Level 7 (also known as SVQ Level 3), over 2 years.

We have 10 vacancies in school nurseries across Aberdeenshire:

  • Rhynie Primary (Huntly cluster) – term-time*
  • Sandhaven Primary – (Fraserburgh cluster) term-time
  • MacDuff Primary - (Banff cluster) – all year
  • Rothienorman Primary (Meldrum cluster) – term-time
  • Kellands Primary (Inverurie cluster) – all year
  • Kintore Primary (Kemnay cluster) – all year
  • Banchory Primary (Banchory cluster) – all year
  • Aboyne Primary (Aboyne cluster) – all year
  • Ballater/Braemar Primary (Aboyne cluster) – term time
  • Laurencekirk Primary (Laurencekirk cluster) – all year*

*All positions will be 36.25 hrs (Mon-Fri) between the hours of 8.00am-6.00pm, however, this may vary between schools.

The salary for a term time position will be - £17,715 - £18,115

The salary for an all year position will be - £20, 523

Aberdeenshire Council is committed to increasing the opportunities in the local area by providing Modern Apprenticeships (MA's). Training and Qualifications gained through this apprenticeship are partly funded through Skills Development Scotland (SDS).

Aberdeenshire Council currently applies a Living Wage Supplement to all Council employees earning less than £9.78 per hour. 

The apprenticeship allows you to gain skills, experience and knowledge in the world of work as well as gaining a formal qualification. Successful candidates will be placed on a SDS approved programme of training, within the Aberdeenshire Council Modern Apprenticeship Scheme, in Social Services (Children & Young People) at SCQF Level 7. Academic achievement to Scottish National Level 5, Standard Grades or equivalent transferable experience and skills is essential.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

This post will require you to have obtained SSSC registration within 6 months of employment. 

This post has a minimum requirement of two references, one of these must be your current or most recent employer.
