Job Description

Internal vacancy – applications for this post will only be accepted from current employees of Aberdeenshire Council (this includes relief staff and agency staff who are currently undertaking work with us).

Situated in the Northeast of Scotland, Aberdeenshire is a beautiful and historic region, encapsulating the rugged mountains of the Cairngorms and breath-taking coastal scenery.

One of the most dynamic and unique regions of the country, Aberdeenshire is a great place to live, work and visit. We believe we have something to offer people of all ages - a quality of life which is hard to find elsewhere.

Sitting within the Planning and Economy Service of Aberdeenshire Council, we are seeking an experienced and highly motivated chartered town planner to join the Kincardine and Mearns/Marr Development Management Team in a Senior Planner position.

You will take a lead role in the processing of planning applications, and in particular major and more complex planning applications and play an important role in the daily functioning and delivery of a high performing Development Management Service within the Kincardine and Mearns/Marr area and where necessary Aberdeenshire as a whole.

The role offers opportunities for being responsible for the assessment and determination of a varied caseload of planning applications generally of a more complex nature; day to day supervising and mentoring of Planning Technicians and Planning Officers within the Team; contributing to Service-wide improvement projects; liaising closely with colleagues in other Services of the Council and external organisations; and working closely with Elected Members of the Council on an informal basis but also at formal Area Committee level.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well organised individual with good communication and negotiation skills and you should have an in-depth knowledge of planning procedures relating primarily to Development Management. You will have some experience in delivering presentations to a range of audiences.  Experience in supervising and/or mentoring staff and the ability to project manage is desirable.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

Location: The team and job base is in Viewmount Stonehaven.  However, the team is working with a flexible/hybrid arrangement with a mix of home and office working as the Service is committed to working within an enhanced digital environment.  The post involves undertaking site visits, and potentially attending offices for collaborative and team working, potential committee attendance and training events as necessary.
