Argyll & Bute Chief Officers Group is seeking to recruit an experienced, skilled and dynamic individual to undertake the role of external Independent Chair of our Adult Protection Committee.

This role requires that you are not a member or officer of the council and as such the recruitment process requires that you are not employed by the council, recruitment will be undertaken via Public Contracts Scotland (link below).

On behalf of the Chief Officer’s Group the Independent Chair will provide assurance on the inter-agency working to protect adults in Argyll & Bute. The Argyll and Bute Adult Protection Committee is a multi-agency forum and operates to develop, implement, and improve adult protection strategy across and between agencies, public bodies, and the local community. The committee works to raise awareness that the protection of vulnerable adults and the community is everyone’s job.

The main duties will be to convene and oversee the core functions of the Adult Protection Committee in line with relevant legislation and national guidance, providing strategic leadership to drive forward our programme of development in safeguarding adults; offer external direction and oversight of our activities detailed in the annual business plans; provide vision and strategic leadership. The Independent Chair will be key to the continuous improvement work of the committee and contribute to protection activity with colleagues in Child Protection, Alcohol and Drug Partnership, Prevent and Violence to Women and Girls.

The Independent Chair will represent the Argyll & Bute partnership nationally, linking with Scottish Government to ensure that we continue to participate in ongoing national developments.

This is a part time role with planned hours subject to the requirement of the committee. It is essential that you are educated to degree level and in possession of a relevant professional qualification and registration with an appropriate professional body. Ideally you will hold a management qualification and be able to demonstrate significant leadership successes; have substantial experience of working at an executive level; have knowledge and experience of national developments in relation to Adult and Public Protection and have a proven track record in a senior strategic management role.
