Job Description

Children, Education and Justice Services

Heritage Language Tutors (Arabic, Cantonese, Italian, Polish, Urdu)

Salary: 21.38 per hour
Hours: Casual

We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic fluent users of the languages listed above to join a new team of Heritage Language Senior Phase Support Tutors. This service is central to our vision to support senior phase learners to gain additional qualifications in their Heritage Languages. This role involves supporting fluent learners to develop the skills and confidence needed to be presented for a range of SQA and GCSE qualifications.

Applications are invited from fluent users of the above languages with experience of working young people, knowledge of the SQA National Five, Higher and Advanced Higher and GCSE curricula and procedures, as appropriate, and a strong awareness of aspects of culture associated with the target language.

You should have very strong communication skills and be confident in your ability to plan and lead on-line and face-to-face learning activities and support young people to prepare for exams and develop their language skills.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
