Project Worker (Disability Behaviour Support Services)
Seaview Children's Unit

Salary: £26,393 - £31,484 per year
Hours: 36 per week

Disability Behaviour Support Service provides practical strategies for parents/carers in managing their child’s behaviour. Behaviours may include; being aggressive to parents/carers and their siblings, destruction of property, being a danger to themselves, challenging behaviour due to a lack of ability to communicate/understand and difficulties engaging/playing with siblings. The purpose will be to skill build, enhance familial relationships and reframe issues identified by the family to increase family functioning.

Work is undertaken with children and families with a very wide range of ages, multiple disabilities and needs. The worker is responsible for creating and implementing behaviour management programmes and has to be able to be adaptive in their approach.

The work is predominantly home-based, short-term and intensive and involves seeing the family as a fundamental service unit and working with the family at times that are convenient and meaningful to them, in order to gain a more accurate understanding of family life and interaction which is found within the family’s natural environment.

The worker will be required to work alone, operating a flexible working pattern over seven days to meet the needs of the family- this could require working split shifts, early and evening/weekend work. There will be no set shift pattern as hours will be negotiated with the family and agreed with the line manager

You will also be required to Work within the City of Edinburgh Holiday Activity club providing support and guidance to staff and children/young people.

Knowledge of Autism and behavioural strategies would be desirable. HNC/SVQIII in Social Care or an equivalent/ relevant qualification.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.  For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
