Job Description

Place

Student Professional Placement Student Planner (Planning and Building Standards) - fixed term until 28/06/2024
Waverley Court

Salary: £24,890 - £28,854
Hours: 36 per week

The City of Edinburgh Council is looking to recruit two trainee planners based within the Planning and Building Standards Service.

These positions are only open to those currently studying an RTPI accredited degree or diploma in town planning; and have completed at least two years of study.

These positions would be the professional placement year as part of a sandwich course.

These positions would be an opportunity to gain real-life practical experience in a busy planning authority where you would be responsible for your own workload. The successful candidates would work in both development management – determining a range of planning applications including change of use, listed building consent, adverts - and planning policy where they would gain an understanding of the range of activities within our planning service and help contribute towards the Council’s objectives.

Candidates would receive all the training required for the positions so we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the key skills and competencies that are essential to these roles. We are currently hybrid working but the successful candidates would be expected to spend part of their working week within the office.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.  For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
