Trainee Outdoor Education Instructor
Bangholm Sports and Outdoor Education Complex, Craighall Gardens, Edinburgh

Hours: variable (tertiary contract)
Salary: £21,697 - £21,979 per year (pro rata for part time and tertiary)

We are seeking applications for a Trainee Outdoor instructor to work with us on an Associate basis (tertiary contract).

The City of Edinburgh's Outdoor Learning Team consists of two residential centres, a city based resource centre, a technical advice service and a city facility called The Risk Factory.

This post is an in-person trainee instructional post, not suitable for remote working.

Successful candidates will be based in and around Edinburgh.

In May/June 2021 and from April - October 2022 we developed and delivered our Epic Adventures programme. The programme delivers local on-site and off-site adventurous activities to Edinburgh schools through a mixture of school day, extended day and short residential visits. Our programmes support primary to secondary transition, progression in residential experience, wellbeing and curriculum based outdoor learning developments taking place across the city.

The trainee instructor will work with Team members to deliver a wide variety of Outdoor Learning activities.

We also support DofE Expeditions for City of Edinburgh Schools, and a number of other programmes.

Please see the attached Job Description for the exact requirements of this position. If you have competencies that match the above description but don't meet all criteria of the attached person specification, please contact us at outdoorlearning@edinburgh.gov.uk to discuss.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
