The City of Edinburgh Council is currently going through a recruitment process and as a result a number of permanent vacancies have been identified. The vacancies being advertised are for the position of Waste and Recycling Collection Operative working from depots within the city.

The duties will include a number of recyclable collections including food, garden and dry mixed recyclable materials as well as residual collections. This is not an exhaustive list of duties as there are other collection streams and collection methods may change in the future. You may be asked to work on any of these services on a daily basis. A flexible attitude is essential for the successful candidate as is the physical ability to move all container types within the range of services you may work on.

Candidates will have a proven track record of hard work and reliability and you must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. The ability to lift, carry and manoeuvre full waste containers to the vehicle and return them to the collection point is essential. You must be able to walk considerable distances each day. Candidates will be required to demonstrate a level of knowledge of the waste and recycling industry.

You must have a knowledge of workplace health and safety practices as waste and recycling collections take place on the public highway amongst busy traffic and members of the public. Working safely to protect yourself, colleagues and members of the public is essential.
