An exciting opportunity has arisen for a BSL Interpreter to join our Poverty and Inequalities Team. You will provide a sign language interpreter service and communication support to help deaf and hearing people communicate with each other in a wide variety of situations, working with a range of clients including Elected Members, employees, customers and stakeholders.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has an understanding of working with the Deaf community and Deaf culture.
You should be qualified to Level 6 in British Sign Language and Interpreting and be registered or eligible to be registered with the relevant professional body - e.g. the Scottish Register of Language Professionals within Deaf community (SRLDPC) or the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind people (NRCPD) as a qualified Sign Language Interpreter.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
A flexible/ hybrid working approach between home and office is available for this position.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
