We have a vacancy for an Occupational Therapist to work 36 hours (permanent) based within the Machars Home Team, Newton Stewart.

The Occupational Therapist will be involved with assessment in partnership with people with disabilities and their informal carers, and making recommendations to meet need, which will include assistive equipment, adaptations, blue badge and housing. The Occupational Therapist will work within a multidisciplinary Home Team which includes other Occupational Therapists ,Occupational Therapy Assistants, Social Workers, District Nurses, Public Health Improvement workers colleagues, and the extended team of colleagues in Housing, Care and Repair and other agencies. The Home Team model is a new and progressive model of working within community health and social care.

You will need undergraduate or post graduate experience of working in a team setting and have effective communication and computer skills, as well as good organisational skills and an understanding of legislation underpinning the provision of services to disabled people.

You will be joining the service during a period of significant change with the development of Home Teams and will be positive about change and working in new ways with a desire to be involved in the development of the team. Knowledge of recent legislation and local strategies for Health, Housing and Social Work is desirable.

Regular Professional supervision will be with the Senior Practitioner OT and performance and development reviews are in place, as well as the opportunity to further develop post graduate knowledge, skills and experience.

You must have a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy and must be registered to practise as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
