Dumfries & Galloway’s Fostering and Adoption Team are seeking a Social Worker to join our team on a fixed Term basis for 9 months. This is 36 hours 5 days per week post which is based in the West of the Region. This is a region wide team providing a comprehensive service to kinship, foster and adoptive carers to help support the children and young people they care for.

 

This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to work with foster carers, adoptive parents, kinship carers and supported lodgings providers through range of activities from completing assessments, supervision to carers, presentations to Fostering, Kinship, Permanence and Supported Lodgings panels to assisting in delivering of training to carers and their families, as well as offering support advice and assistance to carers on both a group and individual basis.

 

You will need to have excellent communication and co-ordination skills. You will have the ability to prepare thorough single and multi-agency assessments and action plans that flow from these. You will be committed to evidence-based practice and will receive good support and regular supervision.

Good communication is essential between all relevant Local Authority stakeholders responsible for the welfare of the child or young person in placement. Contribution to the carer annual review process will also be required.

 

You will need the energy and enthusiasm to make significant contributions to the work of the team. We have a strong commitment to learning, and professional development and offer regular student placements. You will be supported to undertake training opportunities to enhance your personal development to gain further qualifications as appropriate.

 

 

A DipSW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential as is registration with the Scottish Council for Social Work

 

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

 

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
