Whitecraig Primary School is a non-denominational, co-educational school serving the village of Whitecraig and surrounding area.

The school was built in 1958 and is all on one level, with wheelchair access at the main entrance and Nursery.  There are five classrooms, a Nursery, a Support for Learning Room, Library, a large hall (which is used for PE, assemblies, shows etc and also serves as the dinner hall) and a general purpose (GP) room.  The school is fortunate to have an extensive playground and outdoor space. The school has its own kitchen staff who provide freshly cooked meals.

The current school roll is 116; 97 pupils in P1 – P7 and 19 pupils who attend the Nursery.  The school has five classes, 4 composite classes (P1, P2/3, P3/4, P5/6, P6/7), catering for the seven stages of primary education.  The breakdown of composite classes may change from year to year depending on the number of children in the school at each stage.   All classes contain pupils of different abilities and levels of development and a relentless focus on the quality of teaching, learning and assessment means teachers work well to structure learning for pupils of differing abilities. We know that friendship groups are important, and we encourage children to mix with their friends at break and through whole-school events. Pupils have a variety of leadership opportunities throughout the school, ensuring that pupil voice is at the centre of the school’s curriculum and planned improvements.

Job Details

To undertake class-teaching duties

Teach assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction.
Develop the school curriculum.
Assess, record and report on the work of pupils.
Prepare pupils for examinations and assist with their administration.
Provide advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education.
Promote and safeguard the health, welfare and safety of pupils.
Work in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals.
Undertake appropriate and agreed Career Long Professional Development (CLPL).
Participate in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review.
Contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year),  recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.   

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted.  Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
