The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £14.85 - £15.91
This is a 39-week sessional post i.e., working hours will be during school term time plus in-service days.

Temporary until the 31st March 2025.

East Lothian Council seek to appoint a positive, resilient and inclusive individual for the position of Pupil Support Worker, at Rosehill High School. The building opened for over 300 BGE pupils in August 2023, and is set to rapidly increase year on year. Our senior phase will begin in August 2024.

The new secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to learning, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up to date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) wing, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state of the art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus goes beyond the traditional classroom and encompasses outdoor learning and sustainability. The campus also includes a number of community and health spaces to support collaboration between a range of professionals and sectors.

Our Pupil Support Workers are an important part of our integrated Pupil Support Team. They work particularly closely with our House Heads and Curriculum Leader for Support for Learning, as well as the wider teaching team.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:

• Communicate clearly and kindly with young people to help reduce any barriers to presence, participation and achievement in school
• Work as part of the team around children with a range of learning needs, building and maintaining strong relationships in the wider school community
• Exhibit the interpersonal skills required to play a full part in safeguarding and nurturing young people, offering the right balance of challenge and support
• Use their initiative and work responsively to meet the needs of the young people in their care
• Commit to viewing themselves as a lifelong learning, seeking out and taking up opportunities to continually improve their practice

As part of the Pupil Support Team, provide support to secondary aged pupils (including Pupil Support Base) with a range of social emotional and behavioural difficulties in accordance with agreed aims, objectives and standards

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
A minimum of SVQ1/Standard Grade General level English/Maths or National 4 English/Maths or Literacy/Numeracy or Intermediate 1 Communication/Numeracy and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
