Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £14.85 - £15.91
This is a 39-week sessional post i.e., working hours will be during school term time plus in-service days.

Monday - Thursday, 08:15-15:50
Friday, 08:15-12:55

Ross High School is a co-educational, non-denominational school situated in Tranent, East Lothian approximately 12 miles from the centre of Edinburgh. The school roll is currently 1250 pupils. The school has good facilities for students and is continually looking for ways to broaden the learning environment out with the school, working together with partners within the community.

The successful candidate will join the House team at Ross High School; consisting of 3 Heads of House and 3 Principal Teachers of Guidance

• The ideal candidate for this position will be a caring individual who enjoys working with children who require additional support in school.

• Previous school experience is not essential. Far more important is that the successful candidate is creative, proactive and has the skills to use flexible approaches to engage children with social, emotional and behavioural needs.

• The job often requires liaising with other staff, parents and partners out with the school, so inter-personal skills are key in this role, to help ensure we help prepare all our pupils for life, learning and work.

Job Details

As part of the Pupil Support Team, provide support to secondary aged pupils (including Pupil Support Base) with a range of social emotional and behavioural difficulties in accordance with agreed aims, objectives and standards

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
A minimum of SVQ1/Standard Grade General level English/Maths or National 4 English/Maths or Literacy/Numeracy or Intermediate 1 Communication/Numeracy and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
