Reporting to the Chief Executive, you’ll be the strategic lead for Education, helping to raise attainment, share best practice and create inspiring learning environments and opportunities across more than 150 schools. The directorate also provides a range of early learning and childcare services, from nurseries and family nurture centres, to out of school care clubs.

Fife’s Education Directorate provides high quality education services to children, young people and families.

Our purpose is to improve life chances for all. We do this by working together to improve opportunities for children, young people and families across Fife, with a particular focus on closing the equity and equality gap faced by many disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

All children and young people matter regardless of race, age, sex, gender, disability or family circumstances. We want to ensure that all children and young people experience an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment that encourages them to have a strong voice in their learning and development.

Our approach is founded on the values of:

  • Compassion
  • Ambition
  • Respect
  • Equity

Our priorities for 2023-26 are to improve:

  1. health and wellbeing
  2. attendance and engagement
  3. achievement (including literacy and numeracy, as well as wider achievement)
  4. positive destinations

The Directorate Improvement Plan* sets out, at a high level, the challenges and barriers faced by children and young people in their lives and learning and how our services plan to address these. It aligns with a number of other strategic plans that support our work, and contributes to delivering the Plan for Fife.

Partnership and collaboration with a range of other national and local agencies and services is key to ensuring positive outcomes for all. Education Services play an important role in the wider Fife children’s services partnership and contribute to the Fife Children's Services Plan.

Join us as we redesign our local services around families and households. Our key strategic initiatives such as the ‘Plan for Fife’ and our ‘No Wrong Door’ philosophy are designed to tackle the root causes of poverty, prevent crisis, and give everyone the opportunities they deserve in life.
