Job Description

We are recruiting to Residential Worker posts in our Children's Residential Peripatetic Team, covering service requirements across our 19 Children’s Houses within the Glasgow Health and Social Care partnership (HSCP).
Role: Residential Worker (Day) and (Night)
Location: Peripatetic Team - Citywide
Starting hourly rate: Day shift £20.35 based on £37,140 per annum, Night shift £24.40 based on £38,172.18 per annum (see attached annual salary detail)
Hours and Shifts: 37hrs (Day), 30hrs (Night) per week (see attached shift pattern detail)
Contract Type: Permanent

Applicants must evidence: relational skills with young people, families and other professionals; good communication skills both verbal and written; good understanding of care planning process; knowledge of current legislation and good practice guidance and a demonstrated commitment to safeguards for children in residential care and Children’s Rights. Child care practice in Glasgow is underpinned by the Nurture Framework and the ability to practice in a trauma informed way is essential. An understanding of Child Development is also desirable, but all candidates must be able to respond relationally and in a non-punitive way to the trauma responses of young people.
Applicants must be motivated to achieving the best possible outcomes for young people, by working with young people to identify goals that are developmentally appropriate. You should be creative, caring and compassionate in your approach to working with young people, and be committed to ensuring that young people’s care experience is positive, developmental and fun. You must be flexible as the post provides a citywide care service therefore required to move to Houses where there is a service need. You will be required to work flexibly across the city to cover short notice service requirements and will work to a 3 week work pattern (see attached) which includes weekend working.
Qualifications held must meet the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) approved qualifications for Registration as a Residential Child Care Worker. Qualification requirements are detailed below:
It is essential that you hold a SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) and / or a HNC in Social Services or equivalent. You should hold one of these qualifications in order to apply for this role and have the ability to undertake the other qualification in order to meet the SSSC requirements.
Applications are also welcomed from candidates who hold a qualification at or above SCQF level 7 which includes social policy, sociology and psychology. Qualifications at level 8 (SCQF) or above, approved for this grade of post by the SSSC are also acceptable.

Please note as part of the local government pay deal, local authority staff are currently not required to pay SSSC fees.
Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above position will be required to pay for their PVG Membership check.
