Job Description
DUE TO FUNDING CRITERIA, THIS VACANCY IS AVAILABLE TO THE FOLLOWING:
16-19 YEAR OLDS
20-29 YEAR OLDS WITH A DISABILITY
20-29 YEAR OLDS WHO ARE CARE EXPERIENCED
4 year apprenticeship as a Support Service School Technician (Technical), undertaking a wide range of duties within Technical, Science, and AV/ICT within a school science department. You will be studying towards an HNC in Mechanical Engineering at Glasgow Clyde College, which is delivered on block release at East Kilbride & District Engineering Group Training Association Ltd (EKGTA).
Key Responsibilities
Provision of technical support required to support teaching and learning, including the safe use and maintenance of fixed machinery and equipment, safe storage and servicing of general school equipment and chemicals with due regard to Health & Safety procedures.
Key Skills
A keen interest in engineering, technical subjects, science and ICT/AV related work and processes would be helpful. You will be proactive and demonstrate problem solving skills and a practical attitude towards work. Can demonstrate an ability to work as part of a specialist team of school based technicians and can demonstrate a high level of communication skills.

Education Services – The Technician Support Service (TSS) supports teaching and learning in all sectors of Education Services within Glasgow City Council.
TSS provide a wide range of advisory, technician support and other specialist services to all educational establishments. For full details please visit the www.tssglasgow.org
The service is provided by professional technicians who have a wide range of specialised skills, expertise and experience in the education sector including Personnel and staff training and development role within Education Services. As well as Technician Service Management and Health & Safety Related Services to the department.
Education, Qualifications and Training
1 Higher in either Maths or Physics with a minimum pass grade ‘C’ or any nationally recognised equivalent qualification e.g. NC Mechanical Engineering.
Experience & Knowledge
None required - training is provided in-house and at college
Any Additional Requirements
Some elements of the Science, ICT and Audio Visual content of a School Support Service Technicians duties will also be covered via in-house training during the 4 year apprenticeship.
Additional in-house training will be provided via the Technician Support Service - Technician Progression Scheme and the Scottish Schools Educational Research Centre Technician CPD Training Scheme courses. Completion of Technician Passport during the 4 year apprenticeship.
