Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Environmental Health Officer to the post Team Manager, Public Health and Environmental Protection. This role holds a position of authority and accountability with Midlothian Council. With an  emphasis on promoting a team culture the key task is to  manage the development and operational delivery of an effective regulatory and environmental health service for the purposes of protecting the public from risks to their health, safety and wellbeing.

The role will support the Senior Manager Protective Services to ensure the overall compliance of the Council with its statutory obligations and internal policies. Public Health and Environmental Protection includes a range of aspects including public health, environmental protection, pollution control, private water supplies, animal health and welfare, pest control, private sector housing and contaminated land.

Midlothian Council is a semi rural authority located immediately south of the City of Edinburgh and is the fastest growing Local Authority in Scotland.

The role will be delivered on a hybrid working model giving the successful applicant the opportunity to combine working from home , in the field and in the office.

Essential

Educated to degree level and hold the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health or equivalent with previous experience of working at a senior level across a range of Environmental Health disciplines.

Be working to or be willing to work to achieving Chartered Environmental Health Officer status which demonstrates an ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development.

Required to maintain competence across a range of Environmental Health disciplines in order to be designated as a Competent Person in terms of the Public Health etc. (Scotland) Act 2008.

Desirable

Possession of further qualifications in specific fields of their profession such as food safety, noise etc.

Management Degree or qualification

A full driving licence

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £53,668.17 per annum.

Responsibilities

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard.
