Job Description

Midlothian Council, as the fastest growing local Authority in Scotland, has secured permanent funding to add to our establishment and enhance the Service we deliver to our communities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Public Safety & Resilience Officer to work as part of a larger team to help strengthen our approach to community resilience, risk management and public safety.

The role will support Protective Services, Place Directorate to deliver Event Safety, Licensing Standards, Serious Organised Crime, Anti-social Behaviour and Emergency Planning, Risk and Resilience activities. It will have a strong corporate focus to assist the Council identify, understand and undertake Risk Management for the Authority at both strategic and service level.

The role allows for hybrid working, giving the successful applicant the opportunity to combine working from home and the office and will allow for the growth and development of the successful individual in accordance with their responsibilities . Applications from those wishing to work on a part-time basis may be considered.

The roles offer a fantastic opportunity to work in a stunning rural location less than 30 minutes journey by road or rail from the centre of Edinburgh, joining a friendly team of professionals to undertake a rewarding and diverse workload.

KNOWLEDGE

Educated to HND or degree level, or equivalent, in a discipline within Regulatory Services ie Health & Safety, Environmental Health or a related regulatory function e.g. Police, with previous experience of ensuring public safety with an understanding of the various legislation associated with protectives services.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £44,989.60 per annum.

Responsibilities

Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee for this Disclosure check will be met by you.

Please note that Disclosure Scotland has changed the way certificates are issued. You will be notified by email from Disclosure Scotland that your certificate is available to view. Once you have viewed your certificate you will be allowed to share this with your employer and it is only available for 14 days from the first day you have viewed the certificate. If you do not grant access to Midlothian Council to view before access is removed, a further application will need to be generated, and this will incur an additional cost.
