Job Description
Working within the Council sundry debt team, you will manage a portfolio of debtors’ accounts. You will work with customers and staff across all Council services to help ensure continuous reduction of debt.
You will advise customers of their obligations relating to the debt but also of help that is available in line with the Council’s position as a responsible and civic-minded organisation.
Although a flexible working pattern is available, there is a requirement for some hours to be worked on a Friday morning to ensure sufficient cover is in place across the team.
This post is designated for hybrid working, i.e. you will work between home and the office (hours to be mutually agreed).
Essential
Passes at Higher Grade level to include English and Arithmetic or evidence of competency in these areas as an alternative.
Previous experience in a credit control/debt recovery team or similar environment.
Previous experience of recording and maintaining data accurately within a finance system
Previous experience working in a customer focussed environment.
Evidence of enhanced oral/written communication skills.
Desirable
An understanding of legislation surrounding debt recovery.
Evidence of working with multiple functions within an organisation.
Evidence of working largely unsupervised and/or being able to manage own workload.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on you working 18 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £13,459.31 per annum.
Responsibilities
Compliance with the mandatory Cabinet Office PSN (Public Sector Network) Code of Connection requires the Council to meet a baseline personal security standard. This requires completion of a basic disclosure check for all employees who can access official information. The fee will be paid by Midlothian Council.
