Regulatory Services Modern Apprenticeship– 2 posts

What’s the role?

Whilst undertaking this modern apprenticeship, the postholders will work to secure a fair and safe environment for people working and living in North Lanarkshire by administration and enforcement of Trading Standards and Environmental Health law. This includes advising and assisting businesses, complaint investigations, business inspections, test transactions and targeted projects.

At North Lanarkshire Council we have three teams that form Protective Services:

  • Business Regulation (food law and occupational health and safety law),
  • Pollution Control & Public Health, and
  • Trading Standards.

During this 2-year modern apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in illicit trade, doorstep crime, consumer product safety, age related sales, food safety, pest control, animal welfare and public health investigations.

As part of this apprenticeship, you’ll undertake a SVQ Level 7 in Regulatory Services. This Apprenticeship will appeal to you if you’re interested in working in and pursuing a career in a regulatory environment.

Placements are in the following areas:

Trading Standards x 1

Environmental Health (Business Regulation/ Pollution Control & Public Health teams) x1

What do I need?

You don’t need to have any previous experience although you should have English and at least three other National 5 level qualifications at a Band A – C. Having Higher English and Maths is desirable, a science subject is also desirable (preferably Physics or Biology). We look for Apprentices who can help us deliver our exciting ambition and plans for North Lanarkshire. During the selection process we’ll look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you’ll need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, pro-activeness and being willing to learn.

In accordance with Government Guidelines, you’ll need to be aged 16-24 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship) or if you are disabled or care experienced, you’ll need to be aged between 16-29 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship).

Pay Information

SVQ Level 3/4– 16-17 year - £6.40 per hour

SVQ Level 3/4 – 18 -20 years - £8.60 per hour

SVQ Level 3/4– 21+ years - £11.44 per hour
