Airfield Superintendent

£44,295 - £46,850 (including Distant Islands Allowance)

The Transportation Service are looking for an experienced member of staff to manage the day-to-day operation of the Council’s airfields, ensuring compliance with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations and requirements.

The Airfield Superintendent shall ensure the airfields meet CAA category 1 licencing requirements, ensure a safe and efficient operational environment including responsibility of safety management, risk assessments and the roll out of fire training of Airfield Co-ordinators and Attendants.

You will be educated to at least SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant subjects to enable entrance to training programmes required by CAA and NATS in order to demonstrate competency.

You are also required to have sufficient relevant experience to be assessed by the CAA and NATS as competent in terms of CAP 700-Operational Safety Competences; A UK Code of Practice and of CAP 699, Standards for the Competence of Rescue and Firefighting Services (RFFS) Personnel Employed at United Kingdom Licensed Aerodromes.

You will be expected to hold, or achieve within 6 months of taking up post, the Certificate of Competence as a Firefighter and Supervisor (Low Category Aerodrome).

You will also be expected to hold, or achieve within 12 months of taking up post a Workplace Assessor Qualification.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
