We are looking for a Building Energy Engineer to join our Energy team. This team delivers a planned/cyclical maintenance/upgrading service for Mechanical and Electrical systems across the entire Council estate of over 2000 properties, as well as providing services to external agencies and arm’s length organisations.

The Authority manages a wide range of properties such as housing, schools, swimming pools, commercial property, private dwellings and miscellaneous other property.

The post holder will undertake the supervision of mechanical and electrical capital and revenue projects and manage a programme of planned maintenance on building heating, ventilation, lighting and power systems, with the aim of maximising energy efficiency, compliance with Health and Safety requirements and minimising water and fuel use.

Applicants should hold an SVQ3 or equivalent level qualification in a mechanical/ electrical subject area and have knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance requirements.

Experience of preparation of reports is essential for this role, while experience of supervision of building related projects is desirable.

You will be part of a team that will assist the Team Manager - Energy to provide a comprehensive energy management service via a range of measured term/traditional contracts and bespoke servicing contracts.

You may be involved in developing projects through the various stages from inception to procurement, on-site works, completion and ongoing maintenance. Direct involvement will vary between projects, but generally you should be a self-starter capable of working on your own initiative with the minimum of supervision.

A good working knowledge of the CDM Regulations is essential.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

Prospective applicants are invited to discuss the post by contacting Alistair Morton, Team Manager - Energy, e-mail: alistair.morton@orkney.gov.uk or telephone 873535.

Closing date: Sunday 17 December 2023

Please note that interview and relocation expenses are not payable for this post.
