Early Years Practitioner in Training (6 posts)

35 hours per week, Term time, 41 weeks
Temporary up to 3 July 2024
£22,341 - £23,071 pro rata (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for working with young children and would like to grow their skills. We have a number of trainee posts in a variety of different nursery settings where you will undertake funded training while you work. You will be supported to develop your practice in the nursery and will attend Orkney College to undertake your SVQ3 (Children and Young People). As a trainee you will be supported by experienced practitioners in the team and will take on more responsibility as you develop in your role. By the end of the year, you will be ready to apply for qualified practitioner posts.

We are looking for warm and caring people with a real interest in playing with and supporting young children as they grow and develop. You do not have to have had experience in a nursery, but in your application, please do tell us about any experience you have had with children and why you would like to be considered for the post.

This post is open to applicants of any age who currently live in Orkney. If you are aged between 16 and 24 as of 21st August 2023, you will be able to undertake training as a modern apprentice. For older applicants, the costs of the SVQ 3 will be covered by the early years service.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
