Orkney Islands Council is looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner to the post of Head Teacher for Eday Community School.
We are looking to appoint an energetic and committed primary school teacher/leader with good strategic leadership and management skills, who will continue to lead, grow and develop the school for learning and teaching in the 21st century.
In Eday, the current school roll for session 2022/2023 is 11 children, spread across the P1-7 age range, along with 4 children in the Early Learning and Childcare setting. Within the school there is a committed non-teaching staff team who support the work of the school. The school is well supported by the Parent Council and wider community who, through the Development Trust, are currently funding a daily breakfast club and a weekly after-school club. The Head Teacher is also the Registered Manager of the nursery. Eday is a ‘community’ school in the sense that the building is also shared with the wider community who run and hold community events and activities in the building both during the day and in the evenings and weekends, e.g., yoga.
Applicants must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. There is an expectation the successful applicant holds or works toward achieving the Standard for Headship while in post. As Head Teacher you will be part of the Education Service management team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of education in Orkney as a whole.
This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
Salary is based on Point 2 of the Headteachers Spine of the Scottish Teachers’ Salaries memorandum and includes a Remote Islands Allowance. Accommodation on the Island, at the ‘School House’, is available for the successful applicant to rent from Orkney Islands Council. This is a 3-bedroom property joined on to the school building itself. We offer a generous relocation package.
For a discussion about the post, please contact Morag Miller, Service Manager (Primary Education) by email: morag.miller@orkney.gov.uk
Closing Date: Sunday 27 August 2023
Please note that interview and relocation expenses will be paid for this post, in accordance with Council Policy.
