Orkney Library & Archive are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual for the post of Trainee Digital Archivist / Digital Archivist to join its busy Archive service.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is already qualified as an archivist, or for those interested in archives, and specifically in digital preservation, to gain experience whilst working towards the relevant qualification.

You will support the development and delivery of a digital preservation strategy for Orkney Archive, taking a pro-active approach in the establishment of processes which will ensure that born digital and digitised records can be managed effectively, and in keeping with requirements to maintain professional accreditation for the archive service.

You will manage the receipt and processing of born digital records to ensure they are catalogued to relevant international standards using CALM software and managing their accessibility in the foreseeable future.

You will represent the Archive service within and outwith OIC on matters pertaining to digital record keeping ensuring continuing best practice, as well as support a search room and enquiry service.

You should have a passion to develop and promote the Orkney Archives digital collections and convey this enthusiasm to our locals and visitors to celebrate Orkney’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.

You should be educated to degree level, and if applying as a qualified archivist, you should also hold an accredited and relevant professional postgraduate qualification (recognised by the Archives and Records Association).

You should have experience working with members of the public and demonstrate a working knowledge of the archive sector/profession.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirement of the Service.
