An opportunity exists to join Perth & Kinross Council's Bereavement Services team, a small team of staff based at Perth Crematorium and working out of Westbank nursery through time.  

The successful candidates will assist the Bereavement Services memorial supervisor in ensuring a sensitive, effective and efficient headstone stabilisation programme is provided within all Perth and Kinross cemeteries.  The successful post-holders will have access to a vehicle to carry out duties across the 160 cemeteries in the scenic Perthshire area. 

The successful post-holders will be be part of a small team and carry out a range of specific tasks and activities to deliver the headstone stabilisation strategy and ensure the safety of the Council’s burial grounds and cemeteries.  Duties will include identifying lairs/headstones and carrying out any programmed headstone stabilisation works, ground works and repairs, refurbishment and improvement works.  You will assist the Bereavement Services officers in the inspection, stabilisation of headstones as required and work closely with external contractors.  

The Individual

You will hold or be willing to work towards the Module awarded by MAMM/BRAHM in regards to working with headstones and any associated qualifications.

Requirements: 

  • Practical experience of mapping systems (ideally for burials) in electronic and paper versions.
  • Have experience in organising your own work load.
  • A proven ability to work methodically and under pressure to achieve deadlines.
  • To have or carry out the required training or hold the relevant qualification to carry out headstone inspections, the ability to complete the required audit trail and be willing to carry out the required training.
  • A valid UK drivers licence.  Towing a trailer (C1+E) is desirable for this post. 
  • Experience of working with hand tools, chain saw certificate (from the ground only) and mini digger experience are all desirable for this post.
  • Be fit and of good health, willing to work out doors in all weather conditions.
