If your answers are yes, we want to hear from you!

We have some exciting opportunities available in our sector leading Parking & Civil Contingencies Team for Parking Attendants. This is a fast moving and dynamic team which will suit professional individuals who have the ability to work alone and have a real passion for teamwork. Our Parking Attendants are the eyes and ears of the local community, patrolling across the entire Perth & Kinross Area, keeping traffic moving and people safe, providing advice to residents, businesses, and visitors. Parking Attendants work with our local Community Resilience groups providing advice and support for communities to plan for emergencies and build local resilience. The team also has a proven track record in working with internal and external partner agencies to provide support for the safe running of events. Parking Attendants carry out a range of enforcement dealing with Parking, Blue Badge and environmental issues, as well as educating and raising awareness on multiple subjects that the team contributes to. This is a varied role and your day will be spent mostly outside, in all weathers, dealing with members of the public face-to-face. Parking Attendants also carry out ticket machine maintenance, cash collection, and deployment of cones, signage and barriers. This means that you should enjoy being active, as you may spend extendable periods of time patrolling on foot. You will also be required to drive our vehicles to travel around the area, and for those who cycle, there will be opportunities to carry out cycle patrols when required.

We support and encourage employees learning and development and there are many opportunities to train and progress your career within the Council.  We also offer an excellent working environment and a number of employee benefits, including a generous annual leave entitlement and the opportunity to join our pension scheme.

The Individual

You will need to be highly motivated, able to work on your own initiative and have excellent interpersonal skills. We require that you have a strong customer focus. You will need to be able to confidently and calmly handle sensitive (and sometimes confrontational) situations in a proficient manner where the ability to treat people with dignity and respect whilst being firm, but professional is a necessity. You will be an “ambassador” and the “face” of Perth & Kinross Council and as such we expect you to be approachable, able to demonstrate that you are resilient, proactive and an effective communicator. You should be able to work under pressure whilst remaining calm and professional, therefore experience of dealing with difficult conversations and situations would be a distinct advantage in this role. This job includes duties that may require a substantial amount of physical effort and mobility on a frequent basis. A flexible approach to working hours is required, as is the ability to work outside normal hours if necessary. You will be computer literate with proven IT skills, as you will be required to use computers and a smartphone to carry out the role. You will have a good standard of education and a current driving licence, preferably without any endorsements.
