Woodlea Cottage (Short Breaks Service), is a Perth and Kinross Local Authority service that provides day, evening and overnight short breaks to children and young people who have complex disabilities.

We have a fantastic opportunity for the right person to join a dynamic and service-focussed team as a part-time Social Care Officer (Residential Childcare). This job is graded at Job Families: Care and Learning Level 6.

Your main duties will be to provide direct care and support to children who have complex disabilities, shared and supported by a team of fellow professionals. The client group are aged between 5 and 18, who have complex and enduring disabilities.

Your role is a varied one, which includes engaging and occupying the children and young people, attending to intimate personal care needs, and administering prescribed medicines including rescue medication.

You will help plan and co-ordinate activities and care support within a well-structured environment. A genuine interest in improving outcomes for children with disabilities is essential.

Ideally you should hold or be in the process of getting one of the following childcare qualifications:
- SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7 or other qualification accepted by SSSC for registration as a Residential Childcare Worker
Or/and
- HNC Social Services or equivalent.

You will be required to undergo a satisfactory Enhanced Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check.

This is a fixed term, part-time post. Your hours of work will be varied to meet the demands of the service, and there will be frequent opportunities to work additional hours.

Responsibilities

Your work must meet the outcomes in the Health and Social Care Standards. Your work practice and personal life must meet the requirements of the and the Scottish Social Services Council, Codes of Practice for Employees. Your employer will meet the Codes of Practice for Employers.

As a professional child carer, you will reflect on the quality of your work with a supervisor during regular supervision and annual review meetings.
You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Residential Childcare Worker within six months of starting and must meet any qualification requirements within set timescales. Continuing registration is a condition of your employment.
