Child Protection Duty Team, Almondbank House, Lewis Place

A permanent post has arisen for a full time Social Worker in the Child Protection Duty team which is based in Almondbank House in Perth city.  The team cover the whole of the Perth and Kinross area.

The Social Worker post offers the opportunity to undertake child protection risk assessments, work to reduce risk and promote the safety, welfare of children and young people.

You will carry out direct work with children, young people and families.  This will involve child protection investigation, safety planning and multi agency collaborative working.

As part of the Social Worker role, staff undertake 'duty' which involves dealing with referrals and crisis situations.  This can include chairing and minuting professional meeting as well as participating in the Joint investigative interviews of children and young people.  You will be expected to work in line with the principles of  'Getting it Right for Every Child' putting inter agency working at the forefront of your practice. You will also be required to complete report writing for a variety of forums including Child Protection Case Conferences, The Children's Hearing system and Court.  You should have excellent report writing skills and have the ability to prioritise your workload and be able to meet timescales.  The recording of case notes is central to practice and you should be able to do this accurately and in a timeous manner as part of the Social Worker role.

You will be an effective communicator and be able to work collaboratively with plan partners, children and their families.

The Individual

The Social Worker role requires a qualification of Degree in Social Work.

You must have a relevant Social Work qualification as well as significant and sufficient experience. 

It would be preferable if you are joint investigative interview trained, however this is not essential.

An awareness and understanding of child development, attachment and the impact of trauma is essential. You will have a good understanding of Child Protection work.

You will be able to evidence a strong commitment to multi-agency working and be a skilled and confident communicator; able to fully contribute to assessment reports and in Professional Meetings, Child Protection Case Conferences, Core Groups and Children's Hearings.

As a person, you will be compassionate and have empathy for the children, young people and families who you support.  You will also be organised and able to work flexibly to meet service need.

This role will cover the whole of the Perth & Kinross area and you will work with a variety of professionals to foster a multi disciplinary and whole family approach.
